New Delhi [India]: Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar of the 5 Field Regiment laid down his life during intense shelling by the Pakistan Army along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir in the early hours of May 7, the White Knight Corps confirmed in a statement on Wednesday.
“#GOC and all ranks of #WhiteKnightCorps salute the supreme sacrifice of Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar of 5 Fd Regt, who laid down his life on 07 May 25 during Pakistan Army shelling,” the Corps posted on X, expressing grief and solidarity.
Pakistan began a series of ceasefire violations late on May 6, targeting civilian areas across Poonch, Tangdhar, and Rajouri, continuing into May 7, even after India’s Operation Sindoor—a coordinated strike on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives.
The cross-border artillery shelling has resulted in 15 civilian deaths and 43 injuries, according to defence sources. Visuals and local reports revealed widespread destruction of homes, injuries, and forced evacuations.
Despite the losses, locals have rallied behind the Indian Army, with one resident stating, “We will not leave the place and support the Indian Army… The operation is a befitting reply.”
Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar’s martyrdom adds to the growing toll from escalating tensions. The Indian Army has reiterated its commitment to protecting both borders and civilians, while also emphasizing restraint and precision in military responses.
