Keir Starmer, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom on Thursday, said that two top British universities, the University of Lancaster and the University of Surrey, has been given a permission to open campuses in India.
Starmer made the statement during his two-day trip to India. This shows how the two countries are working together more and more in the fields of higher education and innovation.
The British Prime Minister came to Mumbai on Wednesday morning with a group of 125 important UK business executives, entrepreneurs, and educators.
According to the news reports, this means that nine UK institutions are now allowed to set up campuses in India.
The University of Southampton opened its campus in Delhi earlier this year. Next year, a number of additional major British schools will open campuses in India. These include the University of York, the University of Aberdeen, the University of Bristol, the University of Liverpool, Queen’s University Belfast, and the University of Coventry.
The move is part of a larger effort to build more academic ties and encourage research collaboration between India and the UK. This will provide Indian students better access to world-class education in their own country.
