United Kingdom’s Foreign Secretary David Lammy presented External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar with a Tottenham Hotspur jersey during the latter’s official visit to the UK. The jersey, bearing the number 1 and Jaishankar’s name printed on it, was a symbolic gesture of friendship.
Lammy, who represents north London’s Tottenham as a Member of Parliament, welcomed Jaishankar at the historic Chevening House. In a video shared on Instagram capturing moments from the visit, Lammy expressed his enthusiasm about strengthening ties between the two nations.
“It is a great privilege to have you here as my first guest. 2025 is going to be a special year for moving the UK-India relationship into a new era,” Lammy said.
The UK Foreign Secretary also posted highlights of the meeting on X (formerly Twitter), emphasizing the growing strategic partnership between India and the UK.
“Thank you @DrSJaishankar, for being my first official guest at Chevening. We’re building a new era in relations, from FTA negotiations last week to discussions on growth, security and foreign policy today. Our partnership makes our people safer and more prosperous,” Lammy stated in his post.
During the visit, EAM Jaishankar engaged in extensive discussions at Chevening House, covering key aspects of bilateral relations, including strategic coordination, political cooperation, trade negotiations, education, technology, mobility, and people-to-people exchanges.
Jaishankar is on an official visit to the United Kingdom and Ireland from March 4 to 9, aiming to enhance diplomatic ties and expand collaboration across multiple sectors. A statement from India’s Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership shared between India and the UK, underscoring its significance in areas such as defense, security, trade, health, education, and cultural exchanges.
