“Lalu Yadav is Fitter Than Nitish Kumar”: Tejashwi Sparks Bihar CM Race Debate

RJD leader counters JD(U) chief’s son’s claim, fueling political fitness battle ahead of elections

Patna (Bihar), February 23: As Bihar gears up for the upcoming Assembly elections, the debate has taken an unusual turn—not over policies, but over the “fitness” of two veteran leaders, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav.

The discussion began when JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, asserted that his father is “100 per cent fit” and ready to continue leading Bihar. In a sharp rebuttal, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav declared that his father, Lalu Yadav, is “fitter than” Nitish Kumar.

Political Barbs Over Fitness

Speaking to the media on Saturday, Tejashwi Yadav dismissed Nishant Kumar’s remarks, instead pointing to past statements made by JD(U)’s own allies.

“Nishant Kumar should worry about what people like Samrat Chaudhary, Vijay Sinha, Chirag Paswan, Jitan Ram Manjhi, and even PM Modi have said about Nitish Kumar. Chirag Paswan had called him ‘not mentally stable,’ and Manjhi ji had questioned his health,” said Tejashwi.

He further lauded his father’s contributions to Bihar, claiming, “Lalu Prasad Yadav has done more for social justice and Bihar’s progress than anyone else. He secured a package of ₹1.65 lakh crore for Bihar from the Centre—no one else has done that.”

PM Modi’s Bihar Visit Amid Political Tensions

The political battle is set to intensify as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Bhagalpur on February 24 for a mega rally at the Airport Ground. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar will join him, and the event is expected to attract around five lakh farmers.

Taking a dig at the NDA, Tejashwi Yadav remarked, “Now, Delhi elections are over, and suddenly, everyone is coming to Bihar. They don’t care about the people of Bihar; they only care about power.”

During the rally, PM Modi is expected to release the 19th installment of the Kisan Samman Nidhi, prioritizing farmers’ welfare and development.

As Bihar heads into a heated election season, the unusual debate over fitness appears to be a reflection of the ongoing power struggle in the state’s political landscape.
