Washington [US], July 6: Country star Lainey Wilson has opened up about how she and her fiancé, former NFL quarterback Devlin “Duck” Hodges, keep their relationship thriving despite hectic schedules and time apart.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Wilson emphasized the importance of intentional effort. “You have to definitely carve out the time,” she said. “It has to be something that you’re very aware of, like, ‘Okay, I’ve got a day off here in 10 days. I’ve got to dedicate that day to spend time with my person.’”
Wilson described Hodges as her “best friend” and praised his unwavering support, calling him “one of the purest hearts and people” she has ever met. “He is my biggest cheerleader,” she added. “We don’t really play by the rules.”
Their unconventional relationship—marked by time apart due to Wilson’s touring schedule—hasn’t dampened their bond. Instead, they focus on cherishing every moment together. “We both need that and deserve that… we just try to soak up those moments as best as we possibly can,” Wilson explained.
Wilson and Hodges began dating in 2021 but kept their romance private until they made it public at the ACM Awards in May 2023, where Hodges accompanied Wilson on the red carpet, PEOPLE reported. Despite the challenges of life on the road, Wilson said their relationship has been “easy” and continues to grow stronger.
