Washington [US], April 13: Lady Gaga delivered a powerful and emotional performance of her Oscar-winning hit “Shallow” during the opening night of Coachella 2025, evoking memories of her transformative role in A Star Is Born.
Taking the stage with palpable excitement, Gaga addressed the crowd, recalling the personal impact of the 2018 film that marked a turning point in her career.
“You know, since the last time I played Coachella, I’ve had some songs come out… And we filmed a movie, a movie that changed my life, helped me say something I hadn’t said before,” she said, as quoted by Deadline.
Introducing “Shallow,” Gaga encouraged the audience to join her in song:
“I’m so excited to sing this for you here tonight, I couldn’t wait. I hope you sing it as loud as you can. There ain’t nothing like you. Come on, let’s get far from the shallow.”
Originally performed as a duet with Bradley Cooper in A Star Is Born, the song earned Gaga an Academy Award for Best Original Song and remains one of the most iconic performances of her career.
The legacy of A Star Is Born spans decades, with previous versions starring legends such as Barbra Streisand (1976), Judy Garland (1954), and Janet Gaynor (1937). Gaga’s version brought a modern take to the timeless story and cemented her as a multifaceted performer.
Gaga’s performance was a highlight of Coachella 2025, which features a star-studded lineup including Green Day, Post Malone, Missy Elliott, Charli XCX, and Megan Thee Stallion, among others.
As the festival got underway, Gaga’s rendition of “Shallow” served as both a nostalgic moment and a reminder of the artistic depth she continues to bring to the stage.
