Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe has suffered a left knee injury, the Spanish club confirmed on Wednesday. In a short official statement, Real Madrid revealed that the forward has been diagnosed with a knee sprain, though the club has not announced how long he will be sidelined.
According to French sports daily L’Equipe, Mbappe is expected to be out for at least three weeks. The publication reported that the French captain has been dealing with discomfort for several weeks due to a lateral knee ligament issue. A recent MRI scan carried out on Wednesday morning reportedly detected a lesion, requiring immediate treatment and a period of rest.
The injury comes at a time when Mbappe has been in outstanding form. Earlier this month, he scored his 59th goal of 2025, equalling Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for the most goals in a calendar year for Real Madrid. Since joining the club from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2024, Mbappe has quickly become a key figure. So far this season, he has netted 29 goals, including a league-leading 18 goals in La Liga.
Real Madrid will be hoping for a swift recovery, with crucial fixtures ahead. Their next match is scheduled for Sunday against Real Betis in La Liga, and Mbappe’s absence will certainly be felt as the team pushes forward in domestic and European competitions.
