At least 12 First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed against nurses at police stations in two districts of Kerala for not paying back loans they took out from a Kuwaiti bank.
Information about the alleged fraud
An executive from the Al Ahli Bank in Kuwait submitted a formal complaint with the state Director General of Police (DGP), which led to the action.
Accused and Amount: The lawsuit is against 13 nurses from Kerala who are said to have defaulted on loans worth ₹10.33 crore.
Loan Details: Reports say that these people took out these big loans, which were between ₹61 lakh and ₹91 lakh per person, between 2019 and 2021. At that time, they worked for the Ministry of Health in Kuwait.
Current Status: Thomas J. Anakkallungal of James and Thomas Associates, who is allowed to speak for the bank, says, “These 13 nurses went back to Kerala after their work contracts ended, but they have since moved to Europe and the West.” They still haven’t paid back the debts in full.
A lot of lawsuits are happening in Kerala.
There are 12 FIRs against the 13 nurses at different police stations in the Kottayam and Ernakulam districts.
The cases in Kottayam were filed in the following stations: Kuravilangad, Ayarkunnam, Veloor, Kaduthuruthy, Vaikom, and Thalayolaparambu.
There were cases filed at the Puthencruz, Pothanikad, Varapuzha, and Angamaly stations in Ernakulam.
The people who are being charged with crimes are cheating and breaking the law in a criminal way.
This isn’t the first time a Kuwaiti bank has raised such an alarm; the latest instances follow a similar loan default complaint filed by Gulf Bank with the Kerala DGP in December last year, which identified over 1,400 defaulters, many of whom were Keralites.
