“Mainstream Media At This Point Nothing But Miscommunication Arm Of Ruling Party”: Kunal Kamra

Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra on Thursday slammed the mainstream media, accusing it of acting as a mouthpiece for the ruling party. Kamra labeled the media as “vultures”, criticizing their role in spreading misinformation and diverting attention from important national issues.

“To all those hounding for a quote – The mainstream media at this point is nothing but a miscommunication arm of the ruling party. They are vultures who report on issues that don’t matter to the people of this country. If they all shut shop from tomorrow till eternity, they will be doing a favour to the country, its people, & their own children,” Kamra posted on X.

Controversy Over “Gaddar” Remark

Kamra’s statement came amid a heated controversy surrounding his remarks about Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde and his parody song targeting Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

His joke, in which he allegedly referred to Eknath Shinde as a “gaddar” (traitor) during a stand-up performance, sparked outrage among political leaders, who demanded action against him.

Mumbai Police Issues Summons

In response to the controversy, Mumbai Police summoned Kamra for questioning. After missing the first summons, his lawyer requested a week’s extension. However, the police rejected this request and issued a second summons.

According to officials, Kamra is under investigation for allegedly making satirical remarks about multiple public figures, including politicians, actors, and sportspersons. Authorities indicated that if the probe uncovers past instances of similar offenses, more cases may be filed against him.

Despite his legal troubles, Kamra remained defiant and released a new parody song on Wednesday, accusing the BJP of “tanashahi” (dictatorship).

Police Investigation Continues

Mumbai Police clarified that while Kamra’s lawyer has been in touch, the comedian himself has not communicated directly with investigators. Officials stated that if further offenses are discovered, additional legal action may be taken.
