Chamarajanagar (Karnataka) [India]: The Karnataka cabinet on Thursday passed a resolution condemning the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives, expressing solidarity with the Government of India. The resolution was passed during a cabinet meeting held in Chamarajanagar.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed the resolution and criticized the Union Government, citing an intelligence failure in preventing the attack.
“A resolution condemning the incident has been passed in the cabinet meeting. We also expressed our solidarity with the Government of India. There is a failure of intelligence in the central government,” Siddaramaiah stated.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar echoed the sentiment of unity while warning against the politicization of the tragedy.
“We stand by the government because the nation’s integrity is very important. Some people are trying to politicise this, which is wrong. Peace should be maintained, and this issue should not be used for political gain,” Shivakumar said.
The terror attack, which took place on Tuesday at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, has been described as one of the deadliest in Jammu and Kashmir since Pulwama in 2019. The victims included 25 Indian tourists and one Nepali citizen, with several others injured.
In response, the Central Government has taken decisive steps, including:
- Suspending the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960
- Shutting down the Integrated Check Post at Attari
- Declaring Pakistani High Commission officials persona non grata
- Suspending visa services for Pakistani nationals
- Revoking existing visas effective from April 27, 2025
- Cancelling participation under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme
The attack has prompted strong condemnation across the political spectrum, with most parties and state governments, including Karnataka, urging unity and a firm stance against cross-border terrorism.
