Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 11: KT Rama Rao, BRS Working President and son of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, alleged a political conspiracy by the BJP and Congress to defame the BRS and the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project.
Rao said, “Rahul Gandhi and the BJP are working together in this. Kaleshwaram is a massive project with over 100 components. Out of 85 pillars in one barrage, only two have suffered damage, which I believe was due to sabotage by Congress.”
He dismissed the criticism of the project as a “political vendetta” and expressed confidence that the people of Telangana would stand with the BRS. “This smear campaign will receive a fitting response. The truth will prevail, and KCR and the BRS will be proven right,” he asserted.
Highlighting the scale and success of the Kaleshwaram project, Rao emphasized that it was completed in four years under KCR’s leadership and has helped irrigate 45 lakh acres of land. “This is the world’s largest lift irrigation project, and it has brought tremendous benefits to Telangana,” he stated.
Meanwhile, K Chandrashekhar Rao appeared before the PC Ghosh Commission in connection with allegations of irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project. Other key figures, including former Irrigation Minister Harish Rao and BJP MP Etela Rajender, have also deposed before the commission.
Earlier, on June 8, BJP MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy had described the Kaleshwaram project as the “world’s biggest engineering blunder” and a “massive scam.” He blamed the project for Telangana’s financial woes, claiming it was a key reason behind the state’s ₹8 lakh crore debt and current economic distress.
“The Congress government now lacks the funds even to pay salaries,” Reddy added, holding both past and present governments responsible for the situation.
