Washington DC [US], June 9: Actress and singer Kristin Chenoweth has confirmed her cameo appearance in Wicked: For Good, the highly anticipated adaptation of the iconic Broadway musical. Alongside Idina Menzel, her original Broadway co-star, Chenoweth briefly reprises her connection to the role of Glinda, which she first portrayed in 2003.
Speaking on the red carpet at the 78th Tony Awards, Chenoweth said, “I think Idina and I had our moment, and it was a beautiful moment. I love it. It’s coming home. I’m seeing all my friends—it’s your people, happy,” according to E! News.
Wicked: For Good stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda in their cinematic versions of the iconic witches of Oz. Directed by Jon M. Chu, the film also features Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz, Ethan Slater as Boq, Marissa Bode as Nessarose Thropp, and Bowen Yang as Pfannee. The screenplay is penned by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox.
Although Chenoweth is not returning for a larger role in the sequel or beyond, she previously shared her deep admiration for the new cast. In a heartfelt Instagram post following the release of the first Wicked film in November, she wrote, “Oh my gosh, I just saw the movie and I’m dying. I’m deceased. I’m actually dead. I’m not here. The story is so wonderful, and Cynthia and Ariana are amazing. Jon Chu nailed it. I was so moved, emotional, happy, filled with joy. Please, everybody, go see Wicked, you’ll be blessed.”
Ariana Grande also expressed her gratitude to Chenoweth, crediting her as a major influence. “I learned everything I know from watching this woman,” Ariana said. Recalling their time together on Hairspray Live, she added, “You would pitch a joke, or a melody change, and ask, ‘Does this add value?’ That changed my life entirely.”
With the beloved world of Wicked returning to screens in a two-part cinematic event, fans are excited to see both old and new faces honor the legacy of Oz.
