Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has announced that she is recommending a full travel ban on all countries she claims are “flooding” the United States with undesirable immigrants. Her announcement, made after a meeting with President Donald Trump, follows the recent shooting of two National Guardsmen by an Afghan national in Washington, D.C.
🚫 The Proposed Travel Ban
Noem took to X (formerly Twitter) to share her recommendation:
“I just met with the President. I am recommending a full travel ban on every damn country that’s been flooding our nation with killers, leeches, and entitlement junkies.”
She strongly justified her stance, asserting that the nation was not built for “foreign invaders to slaughter our heroes, suck dry our hard-earned tax dollars, or snatch the benefits owed to AMERICANS. WE DON’T WANT THEM. NOT ONE.”
🚨 The Catalyst: National Guard Shooting
The recommendation comes days after the fatal shooting of two members of the West Virginia National Guard:
- Victim: Specialist Sarah Beckstrom (20) was killed.
- Victim: Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe (24) was critically wounded.
- Suspect: The 29-year-old Afghan national, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, who immigrated to the United States in 2021, has been charged with first-degree murder.
🏛️ Criticism of Previous Administration
The shooting reignited harsh criticism of the immigration policies of the former Biden administration from both President Trump and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS):
- President Trump slammed former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris for “screwing the country” by allowing immigrants to enter “totally unchecked and unvetted.”
- DHS Action: The Department of Homeland Security previously labeled the Biden administration’s handling of immigrants an “act of national self-sabotage.” Following the incident, the DHS announced an immediate and indefinite halt to the processing of all immigration requests relating to Afghan nationals, pending a review of security and vetting protocols.
