There is still a lot of talk about Rohit Sharma’s future in Indian cricket. Krishnamachari Srikkanth, a former India captain and chief selector, has told the BCCI selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar to make Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli automatic picks for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup.
When the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made Shubman Gill the ODI captain, people started to wonder what Rohit’s long-term role would be on the squad. The 38-year-old opener, on the other hand, put all worries to rest with a great performance in the recent three-match ODI series against Australia.
Rohit was India’s best scorer in the second and third ODIs. He scored a magnificent 73 runs in challenging conditions and an unbroken 121 runs in the series finale, leading India to a 9-wicket triumph. He won the Player of the Series title because he was so good.
“Rohit Sharma Is Back to His Best” — Srikkanth
Srikkanth lauded the veteran opener for getting back to his usual timing and calmness at the bat, saying he was impressed by Rohit’s condition and health.
“Rohit is going to the World Cup in 2027 for sure. We can’t play without him and Virat Kohli. Rohit Sharma has shed 11 kg and looks very healthy. Srikkanth commented on his YouTube channel, “It was the old Rohit Sharma, playing with ease and perfect timing.”
He didn’t care about worries about Rohit’s age, saying that his skill, athleticism, and leadership make him necessary.
“Don’t bring up the fact that he’s almost 40.” He is in good shape, bats well, and catches well at slips. What else do you want? “He’s playing like he did in the World Cup in 2019,” he said.
“Lock in Rohit and Kohli for 2027,” says BCCI.
Srikkanth also said that Rohit and Kohli’s undefeated 168-run partnership in the third ODI showed that they were still the best.
He told the present BCCI panel, “If I were the chairman of selectors, I would go to them right now and say, ‘Just stay fit for the 2027 World Cup and win us the trophy.'”
Rohit’s recent good play, together with his improved fitness and experience, has brought up talks about how important he will be to India’s ambitions for the next World Cup cycle. Many people, including Srikkanth, think that Kohli and Rohit are still very important for India’s chances of winning the World Cup in 2027.
