Kolkata Law Student Gangrape: College Security Guard Arrested, Fourth Accused In Custody

Kolkata: In a significant development in the alleged gangrape case at South Calcutta Law College, the Kolkata Police on Saturday arrested the college’s security guard, taking the total number of arrests to four.

The arrested guard has been identified as 55-year-old Pinaki Banerjee. He was taken into custody days after three others, including the main accused — a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and former student — were arrested.

“Guard of the Law College, Pinaki Banerjee (55) has also been arrested in the case,” Kolkata Police told ANI.

🔍 FIR Details and Sequence of Events

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the 24-year-old first-year law student was allegedly gangraped inside the college’s guard room on June 15. She claimed that the prime accused repeatedly assaulted and threatened her, while the other two men stood by and watched.

She also alleged that the main college gate was locked, and the security guard was made to wait outside, facilitating the crime.

👮‍♂️ Arrests and Court Proceedings

So far, police have arrested:

  • Monojit Mishra (31): Prime accused, affiliated with the TMC and a former student.
  • Zaib Ahmed (19): Current student.
  • Pramit Mukherjee (20): Another student.
  • Pinaki Banerjee (55): College security guard.

All three previously arrested accused were produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Alipore and sent to police custody till July 1.

The disturbing incident, which surfaced on Friday, has sparked public outrage and political uproar in West Bengal. The case has intensified scrutiny over student safety and the alleged political links of the main accused.
