India’s star batter KL Rahul has been named in Karnataka’s squad for their upcoming 2025/26 Ranji Trophy match against Punjab, scheduled to begin on January 29 in Mohali. Rahul’s return to red-ball cricket is expected to provide a major boost to Karnataka as they look to revive their campaign.
The experienced batter last featured in a red-ball match during India’s tour of South Africa in November last year, and his inclusion adds significant depth and stability to Karnataka’s batting lineup.
Karnataka will be led by Devdutt Padikkal, who represents Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The squad also features pace spearhead Prasidh Krishna, strengthening the team’s bowling attack ahead of the crucial fixture.
However, Karnataka have suffered a setback with veteran batter Karun Nair ruled out due to injury, dealing a blow to the team’s middle-order experience.
Karnataka Eye Comeback After Heavy Defeat
Karnataka will be keen to bounce back after a 217-run defeat to Madhya Pradesh in their previous match. Their Ranji Trophy campaign began with draws against Saurashtra and Goa in October last year.
The team then registered victories over Kerala and Chandigarh, while also playing out a draw against Maharashtra. With the season entering a crucial phase, Karnataka will be aiming for a much-needed win against Punjab to strengthen their position.
