KL Rahul Crosses 3000-Run Mark In ODIs, Inches Closer To Sunil Gavaskar’s Record

India’s dynamic batter KL Rahul has achieved yet another milestone in his career by surpassing the 3000-run mark in One Day Internationals (ODIs), bringing him closer to legendary figures like Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri.

Rahul played a crucial role in India’s 265-run chase against Australia in the semi-final of the Champions Trophy, remaining unbeaten with a composed 42 off 34 balls. During this match in Dubai, Rahul reached the 3,000-run milestone, further solidifying his credentials as one of India’s most dependable batters.

In just 84 ODIs, Rahul has amassed 3,009 runs at an impressive average of 48.53, maintaining a strike rate of 88.03. His tally includes seven centuries and 18 half-centuries. The 32-year-old wicketkeeper-batter is now just 84 runs short of surpassing Sunil Gavaskar’s 3,092-run mark in ODI cricket.

Rahul finished the game in spectacular fashion, launching the ball over wide long-on to seal a four-wicket victory for India. His consistency in ICC ODI tournaments has been remarkable, as he now boasts 919 runs in 24 matches at an outstanding average of 61.26, including two centuries and four half-centuries.

Virat Kohli Breaks Multiple Records

Alongside Rahul, several records were shattered by Indian cricket stalwart Virat Kohli. On a tricky pitch, Kohli once again demonstrated his chase mastery, scoring a vital 84 off 98 balls.

This innings marked Kohli’s 24th fifty-plus score in ICC ODI tournaments, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who had 23 such scores in 58 innings. Kohli now has six centuries and 18 half-centuries in ICC ODI tournaments, accumulating 2,541 runs at an average of 65.15. He trails only Tendulkar, who scored 2,719 runs at an average of 52.28, with seven centuries and 16 fifties.

Moreover, the 36-year-old batting maestro became the first player in history to complete 1,000 runs in knockout matches across all ICC tournaments, including the Cricket World Cup, T20 World Cup, World Test Championship, and Champions Trophy.

Across all ICC knockout games, Kohli has now scored 1,023 runs at an average of 53.84, with one century and nine half-centuries, further cementing his reputation as one of cricket’s greatest match-winners.
