Kiren Rijiju Accuses Rahul Gandhi And Congress Of Disrupting Parliament, Urges Apology

New Delhi [India]: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has accused the Congress party and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi of inciting chaos outside and inside the House during the recent winter session of Parliament. Rijiju expressed doubts about Gandhi’s willingness to change his approach and called for an apology from the Congress leadership for their actions during the session.

Rijiju Criticizes Rahul Gandhi’s Conduct

Rijiju expressed his belief that Rahul Gandhi was responsible for instructing party members to engage in disruptive behavior, which led to the “ruckus” in Parliament. He emphasized that Gandhi’s leadership had a negative impact on the session’s proceedings, stating, “The main problem lies with the Congress party. It is the Leader of the Opposition who has instructed his people to act in a particular manner, which resulted in the ugly ruckus in the House.”

Call for Apology

The Union Minister called on the Congress to apologize for its actions, including what he described as an insult to the Constitution, damage to the legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and injury to MPs. Rijiju further stated that he believed Gandhi was unlikely to change his attitude, claiming, “I don’t think Rahul Gandhi is corrigible. He is not going to improve in his outlook in a positive manner.”

Democratic Principles and Party Leadership

Rijiju urged the Congress party to respect the democratic principles of the nation and not impose its “non-democratic” values on others. He highlighted the familial nature of Congress and asked the party to refrain from projecting its internal dynamics onto the broader political landscape. “My only appeal to the Congress party is to be democratic… if Congress cannot be democratic because it is a family-run party, don’t impose it on the nation,” he said.

Disruption over Adani Issue

Rijiju also addressed the opposition’s disruption over the Adani issue, pointing out that the session had already allocated time for bills and other business. He criticized Congress for shifting the focus to an issue related to a U.S.-registered case, which led to the protest and chaos in Parliament. “We had already decided the time of every bill and business of the House, but suddenly the Congress came with placards and slogans,” he said.

Emphasis on Cooperation and Responsible Conduct

The Parliamentary Affairs Minister called for a collective effort to run the House smoothly, stating that the government is open to discussions and has appealed to opposition parties to collaborate. He stressed that the cooperation of all parties is essential for Parliament to function effectively, saying, “Congress parties should realize that the people of India have voted for the members to perform in the Parliament, not to display their physical strength and cause injury to other MPs.”

FIR Against Rahul Gandhi

The Delhi Police registered an FIR against Rahul Gandhi in connection with a scuffle that occurred during the protests in Parliament. The incident led to allegations from Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge that he was pushed, while two BJP members were injured during the altercation. Multiple Congress leaders have condemned the FIR, calling it a diversionary tactic to distract from Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks.

The winter session of Parliament concluded on Friday with both Houses being adjourned sine die after tumultuous scenes.
