Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India] : Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, while addressing the ‘Samvidhan Bachao’ rally in Jaipur on Monday, launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his absence from the all-party meeting convened after the deadly Pahalgam terror attack. Kharge called for political unity in times of national crisis.
“On behalf of Congress, Rahul Gandhi visited Jammu and Kashmir and spoke to the people injured in the Pahalgam attack. However, Prime Minister Modi neither attended the all-party meeting nor visited Kashmir. I want to remind him: the country comes first. Everyone must unite for the nation,” Kharge said, drawing loud applause from the crowd.
The Congress chief also highlighted the importance of India’s Constitution, crediting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s work for making it possible for someone from humble beginnings to rise to the position of Prime Minister.
“It is because of Ambedkar’s Constitution that a small tea seller could become the Prime Minister,” he pointedly remarked, indirectly targeting Modi, who often refers to his modest origins.
Kharge continued his attack on the BJP, accusing it of constantly insulting the Congress Party, even suggesting that the BJP leaders could forget to take God’s name but never forget to malign the Congress.
“Whenever Congress grows, they take some action. They may or may not take God’s name, but they will take our name,” Kharge said sarcastically.
Responding to the cases filed against Congress leaders, Kharge asserted that the party would not be intimidated by “false cases” and attempts to suppress it.
“Congress is not going to get scared. You cannot weaken Congress by filing false cases against us,” he declared.
Taking a dig at the BJP’s much-touted slogan about Modi’s “56-inch chest,” Kharge claimed that despite the bravado, the ruling party had only delivered rising unemployment and hardships to the people.
“The 56-inch chest is giving unemployment. BJP is nowhere near the Congress when it comes to work. Fertiliser security, NREGA, education — we gave everything,” he added confidently.
Kharge closed his speech by rallying Congress supporters, stating that if they stayed strong and united, Congress would return to power.
The ‘Samvidhan Bachao’ (Save the Constitution) rally was organized amid growing political tensions and a national debate on constitutional values, triggered further by recent events such as the Pahalgam terror attack.
