Sheila Dikshit, a veteran Congress leader, served as Delhi’s Chief Minister for three consecutive terms from 1998 to 2013—the longest tenure in the role. She is widely credited with shaping Delhi into a modern metropolis.
She passed away on July 20, 2019, at the age of 81, after being admitted to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute with cardiac arrhythmia.
Born on March 31, 1938, Dikshit’s tenure is often remembered for major infrastructure and urban development projects, including the expansion of the Delhi Metro and improved public services.
Meanwhile, Kharge, while addressing a mega convention hosted by the Karnataka government on Saturday, criticized the BJP and RSS, accusing them of attempting to rewrite the Constitution.
“The BJP is selling off Nehru-era public sector enterprises, factories that employed lakhs of workers, to Adani and Ambani,” Kharge said. “Now, the RSS and BJP even talk of rewriting the Constitution. Let me be clear: No matter how hard they try, the Constitution cannot be destroyed.”
