Kalaburagi (Karnataka): Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday declined to comment on former US President Donald Trump’s claim that he brokered a truce between India and Pakistan, calling the matter “confidential” and best addressed in an all-party meeting.
“This is a confidential matter. We will discuss everything in the all-party meeting. It is not right to speak about it here,” Kharge told reporters.
Opposition Demands Transparency and Parliamentary Session
CPI leader D Raja criticized the government for withholding information and urged the Prime Minister to respond to key questions regarding the recent Pahalgam terror attack and the role of the US in mediating peace.
“India stands united against terrorism… but the PM must answer: How did the Pahalgam terror attack happen? What lapses occurred? What understanding was reached with Pakistan, and what role did America play?”
“Our party demands a special session of Parliament so the PM can explain the government’s position,” Raja added.
DMK Welcomes Peace, Seeks Clarity on Trump’s Statement
DMK leader TKS Elangovan cautiously welcomed Trump’s reported mediation efforts, calling the ceasefire a “good move,” but questioned the lack of transparency from the Indian government.
“Trump said he spoke to both governments, but the PM hasn’t confirmed this. Why the silence? If Trump intervened, the government must explain,” Elangovan said.
He reaffirmed the DMK’s support for India’s anti-terror efforts but demanded that the details of talks between India and Pakistan’s Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) be made public.
Modi’s ‘Three Pillars’ Security Doctrine Outlined
In a televised address following the successful execution of ‘Operation Sindoor’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi detailed India’s revised national security strategy in response to cross-border terrorism:
- Decisive Retaliation:
Any terrorist attack will be met with a resolute, preemptive strike, targeting terror hubs at their roots. - No Tolerance for Nuclear Blackmail:
India will not yield to nuclear threats and will respond on its own terms. - No Distinction Between Terror Sponsors and Terrorists:
India will treat terrorist leaders and their state backers as equally responsible.
Referring to past strikes in 2016 (surgical) and 2019 (air), Modi said ‘Operation Sindoor’ reflects the maturity and strength of India’s evolving counterterror doctrine.
Indus Water Treaty in Abeyance
Citing Pakistan’s continued support for terror, PM Modi reiterated his strong stance by referencing the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, declaring:
“Water and blood cannot flow together.”
