Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge launched a scathing attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday morning, demanding the resignations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
Kharge’s demand follows a significant legal setback for the central agencies, after a Delhi court on Tuesday declined to take cognisance of a charge sheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the high-profile National Herald case. The charge sheet had named senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
Allegations of Political Vendetta
Addressing a press conference, the Congress chief did not mince words, asserting that the entire National Herald case was politically motivated.
“The objective of the National Herald case is to harass the Gandhi family,” Kharge stated, confirming the party’s long-held position that the case was filed with “political vendetta” in mind.
Following the court’s refusal to accept the charge sheet, Kharge ratcheted up the pressure on the government, demanding accountability from the country’s top leadership.
