Key Suspect Arrested In Murder Of Hindu Man In Bangladesh; MOFA Refutes Allegations Of Fishermen Mistreatment

Bangladeshi police on Friday arrested Md Subaj Hossain, the primary suspect in the murder of 60-year-old Hindu man Tarun Chandra Das in the Natore district.

Das’s body was discovered on December 21 at the Bara Harishpur cremation ground in Natore. According to the police, the body was found tied up, with hands and feet bound by rope and the face covered with a cloth.

“Initially, it is believed that the victim Tarun Kumar Das tried to scream when he saw the thieves while the unidentified thieves were stealing from the Bhogar inside the cremation ghat, and the thieves tied his hands and feet and strangled him to death,” a police statement explained.

Further investigations revealed that Kasar plates had been stolen from the Bhoghar of the crematorium. Police noted that Das, who had been staying at the crematorium for some time due to long-term mental health issues, may have encountered the thieves during the theft.

On January 9, the Natore police arrested the main suspect, 24-year-old Md Subaj Hossain, from Chittagong. According to a police statement, Hossain confessed to the crime, implicating his accomplices Hasan Mondal, Sajib Hasan, Tota, Talha, and Al-Mutakabbir in the murder.

Police are continuing to investigate the case.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) responded to allegations from India concerning the mistreatment of Indian fishermen.

In a statement issued Thursday, the Bangladeshi MOFA described India’s claims of physical abuse as “baseless and fabricated.”

“Bangladesh expresses its utter dismay and deep disappointment over the unfounded remarks and fabricated allegations of ill-treatment including physical abuses of the detained Indian fishermen by the Bangladesh authorities,” the statement read.

The MOFA emphasized that these allegations could undermine the “spirit of trust, goodwill, and mutual respect” between Bangladesh and India. Following a thorough investigation, Bangladeshi authorities confirmed that no such mistreatment or physical abuse had occurred.
