Amritsar (Punjab) [India]: In a significant development, Punjab Police confirmed that one of the accused in the Amritsar Thakurdwara Temple grenade attack has been killed in an encounter. The deceased, identified as Gursidak, a resident of Bal village, Amritsar, was shot during a confrontation with the police.
Incident Details
- On March 14, two masked individuals were seen on CCTV lobbing a grenade-like object at the Thakurdwara Temple in Khandwala, Amritsar. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
- Acting on intelligence, Punjab Police located the suspects on Monday morning in the Rajasansi area.
- Upon interception, the accused fled their motorcycle and opened fire on the police.
Police Response and Outcome
- During the exchange of fire, Head Constable Gurpreet Singh sustained injuries, while a bullet grazed the turban of Inspector Amolak Singh.
- In response, Inspector Vinod Kumar fired back, critically injuring Gursidak.
- The injured constables and the accused were taken to Civil Hospital, where Gursidak succumbed to his injuries.
- The second accused, identified as Vishal, remains at large.
