Kevin Williamson Kicks Off Filming For ‘Scream 7’

Washington [USA], January 8: Writer and producer Kevin Williamson has officially begun filming for Scream 7. After wrapping up his first day on set, Williamson expressed his gratitude for the incredible support from his crew and took a moment to honor the late director Wes Craven, whose legacy continues to inspire him.

Williamson, who is returning to the Scream franchise as a director after a 15-year hiatus since Scream 4, took to Instagram to share his excitement. He described the day as “the best day of my life” and reflected on the immense impact Craven had on both his personal and professional life. In his post, Williamson wrote:

“I’m not supposed to post about Scream, and I hope @spyglassmediagr and @paramountpics will forgive me, but when you have one of the best days of your life, it’s really hard to keep it to yourself. What an extraordinary day I had working with an amazing and talented cast and crew. They brought their ‘A’ game and had my back every step of the way. I’m so very grateful for this opportunity and to Wes Craven, who was on my mind through it all. The profound impact he has had on my life and career is endless. What a day! I can’t wait for tomorrow!”

Set to hit theaters on February 27, 2026, Scream 7 will continue the slasher legacy that began with Williamson’s script for the 1996 original. Courteney Cox will reprise her iconic role as Gale Weathers, alongside a fresh cast that includes Isabel May as Sidney’s daughter, along with Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, and Anna Camp in key roles.

The film is a major shift for the franchise following the departures of Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, and director Christopher Landon in recent years. The Scream series first took the world by storm in 1996, with Wes Craven directing the original and its sequels, which were renowned for subverting horror genre conventions.

After a successful reboot in 2022 directed by Radio Silence, which introduced new characters alongside legacy stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette, Scream 6 became the franchise’s highest-grossing film in 2023.

Williamson will be working alongside producers James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, and Paul Neinstein from Project X Entertainment, continuing their successful collaboration from the 2022 and 2023 Scream films.
