Kerala Minister P Rajeev Calls For Increased Union Grants Amid Financial Strain

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], January 29: Kerala Minister of Law, P Rajeev, has called on the Union government to allocate more funds for the state’s infrastructure development and its transition into a knowledge-based economy in the upcoming Union Budget.

“We are not receiving adequate grants and support from the Union government,” Rajeev said, stressing the need for additional financial assistance. He emphasized the state’s shift towards becoming a knowledge society and pointed out that substantial infrastructure development requires more support from the Centre.

“A major request is for enhanced funding for infrastructure projects and for supporting the state’s transformation into a knowledge economy. We are hopeful for a positive response in this year’s Budget,” he added.

In related developments, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced that an all-party meeting has been scheduled for January 30, ahead of the Parliament’s Budget session. Rijiju also urged opposition leaders to cooperate in ensuring smooth parliamentary discussions.

During a visit to Prayagraj on Monday, Rijiju stated, “The Budget session will begin on January 31, with the President addressing both Houses of Parliament. We are hopeful for a balanced and effective Budget presentation by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.”

The Budget session of Parliament will begin on January 31 and end on April 4, with the Union Budget set to be presented on February 1. There will also be a break from February 14 to March 10 during the session.
