New Delhi [India]: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday met with the 22 newly elected MLAs from his party following the recent Delhi Assembly elections.
AAP to Play Strong Opposition Role
AAP leader Mukesh Ahlawat stated that Kejriwal directed his party members to play the role of the Opposition effectively and ensure that ongoing developmental work in Delhi does not halt.
“We met Arvind Kejriwal. All the MLAs were present at the meeting… It is our duty that whatever work was going on in Delhi should not stop,” Ahlawat told ANI.
Outgoing Delhi Chief Minister Atishi emphasized that AAP will hold BJP accountable for the promises made during the election campaign, particularly the ₹2,500 per month scheme for women.
“BJP promised that in the first cabinet meeting, the scheme of ₹2,500 will be passed, and by March 8, ₹2,500 will be deposited in the accounts of all women in Delhi. AAP will ensure that BJP fulfills this promise,” Atishi asserted.
She further stressed that AAP will ensure the continuation of free electricity, government school reforms, Mohalla clinics, and healthcare services initiated by the party over the past decade.
“We will ensure accountability of BJP—whether it is giving ₹2,500 to women of Delhi or continuing the work done by AAP,” she added.
AAP leader Sahiram Pahalwan reiterated that Kejriwal instructed them to ensure BJP fulfills all its election promises.
“We met with Arvind Kejriwal… He has directed us to get all the promises fulfilled that BJP has made to the people, just as he fulfilled his promises in the past 10 years,” Pahalwan said.
BJP Calls AAP’s Rule a “Disaster”
Meanwhile, BJP candidate from Shalimar Bagh, Rekha Gupta, criticized AAP’s nearly decade-long rule in Delhi, calling it an “AAPda” (disaster) for the national capital.
She slammed Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, accusing them of being “self-centered” and failing to work in the public interest.
“The truth was revealed to the public that they (Kejriwal, Sisodia) are self-centered. Nothing was done by them for the people. They were really an ‘AAPda’ for Delhi, and people understood this,” Gupta remarked.
She further credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for BJP’s historic win and expressed confidence in his leadership to bring development to Delhi.
“We can only expect development in Delhi from PM Modi. This victory goes to the leadership of PM Modi. People of Delhi are hopeful that PM Modi will develop Delhi,” she told ANI.
Election Results: BJP Secures Landslide Victory
In a historic mandate, the BJP won 48 seats, marking its return to power in Delhi after 27 years. AAP secured 22 seats, while Congress failed to win a single seat for the third consecutive time.
With BJP’s victory, all eyes are now on the new government to deliver on its election promises and address the concerns raised by the opposition.
