Kejriwal Announces Monthly Honorarium For Delhi Women Under “Mahila Samman Yojna”

Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal announced two significant measures aimed at benefiting women in Delhi on Wednesday.

Addressing the media, Kejriwal stated, “Today, I have come to make two big announcements for the people of Delhi. Both the announcements are for women. I had promised to give Rs 1,000 to every woman. This proposal was passed in the cabinet meeting chaired by CM Atishi this morning. Now, this scheme has been implemented in Delhi.”

Revised Honorarium for Women

While the initial scheme proposes Rs 1,000 per month, Kejriwal acknowledged concerns from women regarding its adequacy amidst rising inflation. He announced an increase in the amount to Rs 2,100 per month, with registrations for the revised honorarium set to begin from Thursday.

“The revised amount aims to better address the financial needs of women in the city. However, due to the upcoming elections, the actual transfer of money will be delayed temporarily,” Kejriwal explained.

AAP Leadership Supports Initiative

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi reiterated the party’s commitment to fulfilling its promises. “Arvind Kejriwal had promised to give a monthly honorarium of Rs 1,000 to every woman in Delhi. Today, the Delhi government fulfilled this promise. Now, Kejriwal has guaranteed that, if re-elected, every woman will receive Rs 2,100 per month. This is a guarantee we will fulfill,” she said.

Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia also lauded the initiative, calling it a milestone in empowering women. “This scheme is a symbol of women’s self-respect and their rights. It will promote their economic independence and bring positive changes to families. Once again, Arvind Kejriwal has shown that his politics centers on the welfare of the common man,” Sisodia said.

Scheme Implementation and Political Implications

The initiative, named Kejriwal Mahila Samman Yojna, was officially approved in a cabinet meeting chaired by CM Atishi. It underscores AAP’s focus on empowering women and addressing economic challenges faced by families.

With elections to the Delhi Assembly expected early next year, the announcement also reflects AAP’s strategy to reinforce its voter base by prioritizing social welfare measures.
