Keerthy Suresh is ready to stun audiences with a bold new avatar in Revolver Rita, a film that marks her first-ever attempt at dark comedy. The Tamil movie, directed by J K Chandru and featuring music by Sean Roldon, is set to hit theatres on November 28. The cast includes Radhika Sarathkumar, Sunil, Ajay Ghosh, Redin Kingsley, and John Vijay.
Speaking to media, Keerthy described Revolver Rita as a refreshing step in her career. “This is the first time I’m attempting dark comedy,” she said. “I love comedy—it works well for me.” She added that the film unfolds over the course of a single day, giving it a fast-paced and gripping narrative. “I play a smart person who knows how to deal with things,” she revealed.
Keerthy also emphasised the significance of the film’s two main antagonists—Sunil and Super Subbarayan—around whom much of the plot revolves. “My two-minute monologue with Sunil was very interesting,” she shared, hinting at intense character dynamics and memorable confrontations.
A National Award winner best known for her transformational performance as Savitri in Mahanati, Keerthy said she consciously strives to balance commercial films with more substantial, women-centric roles. “Evolving to get films centred around women becomes important eventually,” she explained.
On the topic of remuneration, Keerthy noted that the landscape is gradually evolving. “Pay for actresses is changing and will change more. The market an actress commands also determines salary,” she said.
Keerthy also addressed an issue many actresses hesitate to speak about—continuing a film career after marriage.
“I wanted to set an example by acting after marriage. Delaying marriage is a choice many actresses make, but continuing or quitting after marriage should always be a woman’s choice,” she said. She added that the industry’s perception of married actresses has changed for the better: “Samantha delivered blockbusters after marriage. I am giving good films after marriage too.”
The actor has an impressive lineup of upcoming projects. She has completed a Hindi web series titled Akka for Netflix, in addition to a Hindi film, a Malayalam movie with Antony Pepe, and new films with Vijay Deverakonda and director Praveen.
Keerthy also expressed concern about the growing misuse of artificial intelligence.
“AI is being misused to show actresses in the wrong way,” she said, adding that many actors are worried. “Will AI take away opportunities? Will actors lose jobs?”
With Revolver Rita, Keerthy Suresh steps into a genre she has never explored before—hoping her bold experiment and new on-screen persona will resonate with audiences when the film releases later this month.
