In a candid new video shared on her YouTube channel on Sunday, February 8, 2026, Kavita Khanna, the second wife of late Bollywood icon Vinod Khanna, has revealed startling details about the actor’s spiritual journey. From public nude meditations in Mumbai to working as a gardener in Oregon, the revelations provide a deeper look into why the superstar walked away from fame at his peak in 1982.

The “Tipping Point”: Family Tragedy
Kavita explained that while Vinod was spiritual from the age of 17, the decision to leave Bollywood was triggered by immense personal grief.
“The tipping point… was when a number of deaths happened in the family within two years. When his mother passed, he just went to Osho and took sanyas,” Kavita shared.
She emphasized that for Khanna, the transition was not about fleeing reality but a deep “spiritual journey with immense commitment.”
Life at the Ashram: From Superstar to Gardener
Despite being one of India’s most bankable stars, Khanna embraced a life of manual labor and anonymity at Osho’s commune in Rajneeshpuram, Oregon.
- Osho’s Gardener: Khanna spent years as the gardener at Osho’s private residence. This role was considered a high honor (seva), as it granted him rare, daily proximity to the spiritual leader.
- The “Robe” Model: Interestingly, because Khanna and Osho shared the same shoulder size, the actor served as a model for the guru’s elaborate, flowing robes. Designers would try the outfits on Khanna before they were finalized for Osho.
The Chowpatty Meditation Sessions
Kavita also confirmed the rumors regarding the radical meditation techniques practiced by the group in the early 1980s. She recalled sessions held at Girgaon Chowpatty in Mumbai—one of the city’s busiest public spaces.
- Nude Circles: Practitioners would gather in a circle on the beach, remove their clothes, and meditate.
- The Intent: Kavita defended the actor’s participation, stating, “I know Vinod was not there looking for the physical part of it… it was a spiritual one with immense devotion.”
Legacy of a Spiritual Star
Vinod Khanna eventually returned to Bollywood in the late 80s, starring in hits like Wanted and Dabangg, before passing away in 2017. He remains one of the few global stars to have successfully balanced a life of extreme material success with a period of total renunciation.
