Washington DC [US], June 26: Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have officially ended their relationship, a source confirmed to PEOPLE. The couple, who got engaged in 2019, have decided to part ways. TMZ first broke the news.
Perry, 40, and Bloom, 48, first met at a Golden Globes afterparty in 2016, bonding over a mutual love for In-N-Out burgers. Recalling the moment on American Idol, Perry said, “I had my security guard grab 10 In-N-Outs, and all of a sudden I see my boyfriend’s hand — he wasn’t even at our table — swoop in and grab one. I was like, ‘Hey, that’s my burger!’”
Their relationship went public later that year during the Cannes Film Festival, with the pair posting their first photo together on Instagram. But their romance wasn’t without its challenges.
In February 2017, the duo announced a split but remained amicable. Speaking on Call Her Daddy, Bloom said, “We’re friends, it’s good. We’re all grown up… It’s better to set an example for kids and show that breakups don’t have to be about hate.”
The couple rekindled their relationship in 2018, though they initially avoided defining it. A source at the time shared with PEOPLE, “They’re not calling each other boyfriend and girlfriend, but they’re very happy. Orlando always had kind things to say about Katy.”
Their red carpet debut came later that year at the Gala for the Global Ocean in Monaco. The two had continued to appear publicly supportive of each other, making their split all the more surprising for fans.
