Kartik Aaryan Celebrates Para-Athlete Murlikant Petkar’s Arjuna Award (Lifetime) Honor

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]: Actor Kartik Aaryan expressed his heartfelt congratulations to para-athlete Murlikant Petkar on being conferred the prestigious Arjuna Award (Lifetime) by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Petkar, India’s first Paralympic gold medalist, will receive the award at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 17, 2025.

Kartik Aaryan, who portrayed Murlikant Petkar in the biographical film Chandu Champion, lauded the athlete’s resilience and indomitable spirit. Speaking to media, the actor said:

“So, so, so happy to hear this news! While working on his biopic, I came to know about his life in such great detail and up close and personal that his win feels deeply personal. He has remained unbreakable and solid throughout his life, despite all the challenges destiny threw at him.”

Calling the honor the “best way to start the year,” Kartik praised Petkar’s sportsmanship, adding:

“Murlikant sir, you are our country’s finest champion – truly one of a kind.”

Chandu Champion: Kartik’s Tribute to a Legend

Directed by Kabir Khan, Chandu Champion chronicled Petkar’s inspiring journey from a soldier who survived severe injuries during the 1965 Indo-Pak war to becoming a Paralympic gold medalist in swimming. The film brought Petkar’s extraordinary story to the big screen, winning critical acclaim.

After the film’s release, Kartik shared a touching behind-the-scenes video with Petkar and his family, calling the experience of meeting the athlete a “life-changing honor.” In a heartfelt note, Kartik wrote:

“Your story was important for everyone to know – to make everyone believe in themselves. From not believing your story could be true to living your extraordinary life for two years, it’s been an incredible experience.”

The actor also highlighted the challenges he faced while preparing for the role, particularly learning to swim without the use of legs, a feat inspired by Petkar’s determination.

Petkar is celebrated for his historic victory at the 1972 Heidelberg Paralympics, where he won a gold medal in the men’s 50m freestyle swimming event, setting a world record. His remarkable journey is a testament to resilience and dedication, inspiring generations of athletes and citizens alike.
