Panaji: A 22-year-old man from Karnataka was arrested by the Goa Police on Tuesday for allegedly murdering his girlfriend in a remote part of the Mollem Wildlife Sanctuary, South Goa.
The accused, identified as Sanjay Kevin, is alleged to have killed Roshini, also 22, on June 15 in a forested area of Pilliem, Dharbandora. Her body, bearing multiple injuries including a deep slash across her throat, was found around 100 metres from the road, police said.
According to officials, Roshini was employed at a school in Karnataka, while Kevin was unemployed.
A local farmer, who was searching for bibem (sprouted cashew nuts), stumbled upon the body on Monday morning and immediately alerted authorities.
Superintendent of Police (South Goa), Tikam Singh Verma, confirmed the two were in a romantic relationship, and that the motive appears to be linked to a personal dispute, as Kevin allegedly suspected Roshini of infidelity.
Investigations revealed that the couple had traveled together from Bengaluru to Goa by a Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) bus, reportedly to spend a day in the state. For reasons still unclear, they got off at a deserted stretch instead of heading to the beach. It was in this remote location that Roshini was found dead.
Police traced the suspect using a bus ticket discovered in the victim’s belongings, which had been booked by Kevin.
“Kevin was arrested from Hubli, Karnataka, and brought to Goa for further investigation,” SP Verma said.
Police are continuing their probe to gather more evidence and determine the exact sequence of events that led to the brutal killing.
