High Drama In Delhi High Court: Karisma Kapoor’s Children Allege Unpaid School Fees In Sunjay Kapur Estate Battle

High-stakes legal drama unfolded at the Delhi High Court on Friday during the ongoing estate battle involving the children of actor Karisma Kapoor and her late ex-husband, businessman Sunjay Kapur.

Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, informed the court that the school fees for one of the children, Samaira, who is studying in the US, have not been paid for two months.

The Unpaid Fees Dispute

Jethmalani highlighted that, under the terms of the matrimonial decree between Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur, the late father was obligated to cover the children’s expenses. He stated that the children’s estate is currently with Priya Kapur (Sunjay Kapur’s current wife), and the responsibility lies with her.

However, Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar, representing Priya Kapur, strongly challenged the assertion, claiming that all expenses raised by the children have been fulfilled. Nayar further suggested that the issue was deliberately raised to attract media attention, stating the purpose was that it “should come in the newspaper.”

Judge’s Warning Against ‘Melodrama’

After hearing the heated submissions regarding the unpaid fees, Justice Jyoti Singh cautioned the parties against introducing unnecessary emotional elements into the legal proceedings.

Justice Singh reportedly told Senior Advocate Shyel Trehan, also representing Priya Kapur, to ensure such issues do not return to the courtroom:

“I don’t want this hearing to be melodramatic. I don’t want to spend more than 30 seconds on this. This question should not come to my court again,” Justice Singh was quoted as saying.

The Core Legal Dispute

The immediate matter before the court was an interim injunction application filed by Karisma Kapoor’s children to restrain Priya Kapur from alienating the assets of Sunjay Kapur.

The main suit, filed by Samaira and Kiaan, revolves around a massive ₹30,000 crore estate and accuses Priya Kapur of forging Sunjay Kapur’s will to gain complete control of the property. Sunjay Kapur passed away suddenly in June while playing polo in London due to a heart attack. Samaira and Kiaan are seeking a rightful share in their late father’s substantial estate.

The court has scheduled the matter for next week to continue hearing arguments on the interim injunction application.
