Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], December 4: Raj Kapoor, one of India’s most iconic filmmakers, continues to leave an everlasting legacy in global cinema. As his 100th birth anniversary approaches, Kareena Kapoor Khan has shared a celebratory poster to honor his remarkable contributions.
On Instagram, Kareena invited fans to join her in commemorating the centenary with a special screening of Raj Kapoor’s most legendary films. She wrote, “His legacy lives on. We are so proud to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of my grandfather, India’s Greatest Showman, Raj Kapoor. Join us from Dec 13-15, 2024, on a nostalgic journey through his most iconic films, screening in 40 cities and 135 cinemas. #RajKapoor100.”
From December 13 to 15, 2024, a total of 10 films starring Raj Kapoor will be screened across 40 cities and 135 cinemas, offering fans a chance to experience his legacy on the big screen. The screenings will take place in state-of-the-art venues such as PVR-Inox and Cinepolis cinemas, with movie tickets priced at just Rs 100 to make it more accessible for all.
Earlier, actor Ranbir Kapoor spoke about the collaboration behind restoring Raj Kapoor’s films at IFFI 2024. He mentioned the joint efforts of the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC), the National Film Archive of India (NFAI), and the Film Heritage Foundation in preserving these cinematic treasures. Reflecting on the importance of honoring legends, Ranbir emphasized the need to remember the roots of Indian cinema, highlighting the contributions of filmmakers like Raj Kapoor.
Raj Kapoor’s legendary works span nearly four decades, including iconic films such as Aag, Barsaat, Awaara, Shree 420, Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai, Mera Naam Joker, Bobby, Ram Teri Ganga Maili, and more. Known as “The Greatest Showman,” Raj Kapoor was not just a filmmaker but also an actor and producer, whose storytelling vision established him as one of the greatest cinematic figures in India. He began his career as a child actor in Inquilab (1935), with his breakthrough role in Neel Kamal (1947). Later, he founded his production house, RK Films, in 1948, leaving behind a monumental legacy.
