KARACHI — In light of dangerous monsoon weather and a spike in drowning incidents, the Karachi administration has imposed a temporary ban on visiting beaches from June 6 to June 13, according to a report by ARY News.
The ban affects several popular beaches, including:
- KANNUP Beach
- Sunerah Beach
- Mubarak Village
- Turtle Beach
- Dua Chowk
The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) made the request due to hazardous wave conditions caused by monsoon tides, which have made the coastline perilous for public activities.
Strict Safety Measures Enforced
Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi emphasized the need to protect lives, saying the decision is aimed at preventing potential fatalities during the turbulent weather.
“Public cooperation is essential. This step is to ensure the safety of citizens and prevent avoidable tragedies,” he stated.
The ban prohibits:
- Swimming
- Bathing
- Diving
- All recreational and entertainment activities at the listed beaches
Legal Consequences for Violators
Authorities will take strict legal action against those who defy the ban, citing Section 195(i)(a) and Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
These sections deal with disobedience of official orders and actions endangering public safety.
Ban May Be Extended
While the restriction is set to last until June 13, officials warned it could be extended further if sea conditions remain dangerous.
Residents Urged to Stay Away
Authorities have appealed to the public to avoid restricted areas and comply with safety protocols, especially during the high-risk monsoon period.
This move follows rising concern over frequent drowning cases and the unpredictable nature of monsoon tides that pose a serious threat to beach goers in and around Karachi.
