Comedian expresses pride as Surrey-based cafe resumes operations with renewed focus on community and safety
Surrey [Canada], July 20: Indian comedian and actor Kapil Sharma has shared his support and pride as his newly opened restaurant, Kap’s Cafe, is set to reopen in Surrey, Canada, after a temporary closure following a shooting incident.
The cafe, which opened earlier this month, had to shut its doors shortly after gunshots were fired outside the establishment in the early hours of July 10. While the incident left no one injured, it caused property damage, with visible bullet holes and shattered windows.
Taking to his Instagram Stories, Kapil Sharma re-shared a post from the official Kap’s Cafe account announcing the reopening. The post read: “We’ve missed you and are truly grateful for your continued love and support. With heartfelt thanks, we’re opening our doors again–ready to welcome you back with warmth, comfort, and care.”
Kapil added his own message: “Proud of you team @thekapscafe” with a red heart emoji.
Cafe Reopens with a Message of Resilience
The cafe confirmed it would be open daily from 8 AM to 10 PM, inviting patrons back with the promise of warm coffee and a safe, comforting space.
Following the shooting, the cafe staff released a heartfelt note titled “A Message From Heart”, stating:
“We opened Kap’s Cafe with hopes of bringing warmth, community, and joy through delicious coffee and friendly conversation. To have violence intersect with that dream is heartbreaking.”
They added, “We are processing this shock, but we are not giving up… Let’s stand firm against violence and ensure Kap’s Cafe remains a place of warmth and community.”
About the Shooting
According to Surrey Police Service, multiple gunshots were reported at around 1:50 AM local time on July 10. Several staff members were inside the cafe at the time, but no injuries were reported. The building housing the cafe includes retail spaces at ground level and residential apartments above.
The police are still investigating the incident, but no suspects or motives have been publicly identified.
Community Response
In the aftermath, Kap’s Cafe expressed gratitude to the local community and law enforcement for their support. The strong outpouring of well-wishes on social media has underscored the cafe’s place as a community hub, even in its earliest days of operation.
