Washington [US], June 11: Kanye West, the influential rapper and fashion entrepreneur who legally changed his name to Ye in 2018, appears to be taking on a new moniker — Ye Ye — as revealed in recent business filings in California.
According to documents obtained by E! News, the updated name “Ye Ye” was used in paperwork submitted on June 10 for West’s business ventures, including Yeezy Apparel, Yeezy Record Label, and Ox Paha Inc. The filings were submitted by Hussain Lalani, West’s Chief Financial Officer, who identified the artist as a “manager or member” of the companies using the new name.
It remains uncertain whether the 48-year-old has formally petitioned for a legal name change to Ye Ye. In California, the legal process requires public notice in a local newspaper and judicial approval, steps that have not yet been publicly documented.
West’s fascination with name changes has long held personal and spiritual meaning. When he adopted the name Ye in 2018, he cited biblical references, explaining, “In the Bible, it means ‘you.’ So, I’m you, I’m us, it’s us. It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye—just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confusion, everything.”
The name Ye was also the title of his eighth studio album, which he described as reflecting the duality of human nature and aligning with the energy of the universe.
In a further move away from his past identity, West announced on May 31 that he would stop using his longtime X (formerly Twitter) account, @kanyewest, stating, “Ima finally stop using the @kanyewest Twitter cause my name is Ye. Gonna start a ye account and it is what it is.”
Ye shares four children — North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm — with his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian.
