In other major film news, Rishab Shetty’s blockbuster prequel, Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1, has achieved a historic milestone, officially becoming the highest-grossing film in the world this week, surpassing major international releases.
The period action-drama, which opened on Thursday, October 2, has performed phenomenally across India and in overseas markets. After just eight days in release, the film has accumulated a worldwide gross collection of approximately ₹475 crore ($57 million), closing in rapidly on the coveted ₹500 crore benchmark.
Box Office Breakdown
- India Net Collection (8 Days): ₹334.94 crore
- India Gross Collection (8 Days): ₹402 crore
- Overseas Gross Collection: Over $8 million (approx. ₹67 crore)
- Worldwide Gross Total: ₹475 crore
The film, which serves as a prequel to the 2022 superhit Kantara, has found significant success across all its dubbed versions. Remarkably, both the original Kannada version and the Hindi-dubbed version have crossed the ₹100 crore net mark individually. The Telugu-dubbed version has also fared well, earning over ₹60 crore, while the Malayalam and Tamil dubs have each surpassed ₹20 crore.
Despite witnessing a drop in collections on its eighth day—earning an estimated ₹20.50 crore net across all languages—the film’s overall performance remains exceptionally strong. Its first week numbers have already surpassed the lifetime worldwide collection of the original Kantara and its prequel is now the second-highest-grossing Kannada film of all time, behind only K.G.F: Chapter 2. The strong momentum suggests that the film is highly likely to cross the ₹500 crore worldwide mark by its second weekend.
