Patna (Bihar) [India], April 11: Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar on Friday strongly criticized the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government after police detained several Congress workers, including himself, during the ‘Palayan Roko, Naukri Do’ padyatra in Patna. The march aimed to demand employment and protest against large-scale migration from the state
“We want jobs, not lathicharge,” said Kanhaiya Kumar while speaking to ANI. “Our demands are simple — stop migration and provide employment. Since the government is ignoring us, we will continue to raise the voices of the people until we are heard.”
The protest took a dramatic turn when Congress workers attempted to march towards the Chief Minister’s residence. Police responded by deploying water cannons and detaining around 20 individuals, including Kanhaiya Kumar.
A police official told the media, “The protestors became aggressive and tried to break through the barricades. Despite warnings to remain peaceful, they continued to push forward, so we had to intervene. About 20 people were taken into custody and are being transported to Kotwali Police Station.”
Congress leader Shakeel Ahmad Khan also condemned the police action, accusing the government of avoiding accountability on critical issues such as unemployment and migration.
“The government’s approach is clear — they do not want to be questioned on these pressing issues. Instead of addressing the concerns of Bihar’s youth, they resort to force. A responsible response would have been to invite a delegation for dialogue,” said Khan.
The ‘Palayan Roko, Naukri Do’ yatra highlights growing public discontent over joblessness and youth migration from Bihar, pressing the state government for answers and action.
