Washington DC [US] : Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut is set to make her Hollywood debut with a lead role in the upcoming horror drama ‘Blessed Be the Evil’, according to Variety. She will star alongside Tyler Posey of Teen Wolf fame and Scarlet Rose Stallone, daughter of Sylvester Stallone and star of Tulsa King.
Directed by Anurag Rudra, the film is slated to begin production this summer in New York. The choice of U.S. locations is reportedly influenced by efforts to avoid complications linked to newly announced Trump-era industry tariffs, Variety reports.
Ranaut’s character is part of a chilling tale about a Christian couple grappling with loss and spiritual torment. The plot follows the couple as they move to an abandoned farm after a miscarriage, only to confront a sinister force that challenges their faith and relationship.
Anurag Rudra, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Gatha Tiwary (President of Lions Movies), said his inspiration comes from rural Indian folklore:
“Being born and spending my childhood in rural India, I was told stories that got embedded in my mind and heart… I truly believed in them and wanted to showcase them internationally through cinema — the most beautiful way to connect dreams with reality,” Rudra told Variety.
This marks a significant milestone in Kangana Ranaut’s career, following her recent directorial venture ‘Emergency’, in which she portrayed former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Tyler Posey, known for his roles in supernatural dramas, is returning to familiar territory, having appeared in the 2018 horror film Truth or Dare. Scarlet Rose Stallone, meanwhile, continues to build her filmography, having previously acted in Reach Me and most recently The Gunslingers alongside Nicolas Cage.
With a mix of supernatural horror, faith-based drama, and cross-cultural storytelling, Blessed Be the Evil is shaping up to be an intriguing debut project for Ranaut in the international market.
