What is the Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Case?
According to Meghalaya Police, Sonam Raghuvanshi is accused of plotting the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon in Sohra (Cherrapunji), a popular tourist spot in Meghalaya. The couple had married in Indore on May 11, and on May 23, they vanished after checking out of a homestay in Nongriat village.
Raja’s decomposed body was found on June 2 in a gorge near Wei Sawdong Falls. Sonam had reportedly gone missing after the incident but was later discovered in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur, where she surrendered to local police.
Police said Sonam allegedly hired three men — Akash Rajput (19), Vishal Singh Chauhan (22), and Raj Singh Kushwaha (21) — to carry out the murder. All three have been arrested.
Sonam’s Family Claims She’s Innocent
Despite the police narrative, Sonam’s father, Devi Singh Raghuvanshi, maintains his daughter is innocent and was “abducted”. He accused Meghalaya Police of mishandling the investigation and called for a CBI probe. His demand has also received support from Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav, who has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking a central investigation.
“My daughter is 100 per cent innocent. The Meghalaya Police is misleading the media,” said Devi Singh.
As the case gains national attention, and celebrities like Kangana weigh in, pressure mounts on authorities for a thorough and unbiased investigation.
