Mandi (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 6: BJP MP from Mandi and actress Kangana Ranaut, along with Himachal Pradesh Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur, visited cloudburst-affected areas in Mandi district on Sunday, interacting with local residents and assessing ongoing relief operations.
Kangana highlighted the swift response from the central government despite the Prime Minister’s foreign visit. “The forces were sent immediately. At the local level, we provided relief material to the affected families… As an MP, it is my duty to convey the ground reality and secure funds for rehabilitation,” she said.
Kangana toured the worst-hit Thunag subdivision, where heavy rainfall triggered cloudbursts and flash floods, leaving widespread destruction and disrupting road connectivity. “Despite the challenges, the administration is restoring roads, and committees have been formed in each affected area to coordinate relief efforts,” she added.
Officials said Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is personally overseeing operations and ensuring comprehensive support to impacted families.
A state government spokesperson detailed that 1,317 food kits—each containing essential items like flour, rice, oil, sugar, pulses, and spices—have been distributed across the hardest-hit regions. Specific distributions included 197 kits in Thunag, 69 in Janjehli, 1,000 in Bagsaid, 40 in Dharampur, and 11 in Chauntra. Additional supplies are being dispatched to meet ongoing needs.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) also visited disaster-hit villages, distributed relief materials, assessed medical needs, and provided essential medicines on-site. Insights from these visits were shared with the District Administration for timely follow-up.
CM Sukhu has directed officials to conduct relief and rescue operations on a war footing, emphasizing that aid must reach all affected residents. DC Mandi Apoorv Devgan identified the most affected areas as Thunag, Karsog Gohar, and Dharampur subdivisions.
Efforts to restore road connectivity, distribute relief kits, and provide medical support are continuing to mitigate the impact of the disaster.
