New Delhi: Actor and BJP Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut on Thursday congratulated her party and senior leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s historic victory in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections — the richest municipal body in the country.
The BJP’s sweeping performance also marked a deeply personal moment for Ranaut. In 2020, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation had demolished her office attached to a bungalow in Mumbai when the undivided Shiv Sena was in power — an action later termed as “nothing but malice in law” by the Bombay High Court.
With the Shiv Sena now losing control of the BMC, Ranaut described the result as a moment of justice.
“I am absolutely thrilled with the BJP’s landslide victory in the Maharashtra BMC election. I congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ji, and the entire BJP family of Maharashtra for this incredible saffron sweep,” Ranaut told NDTV.
Calling it a collective triumph, she added,
“It’s a big win for all of us.”
‘Maharashtra Has Left Them’: Ranaut
Recalling the demolition of her property and the political backlash she faced at the time, Ranaut struck a sharp note while reacting to the election outcome.
“For those who abused me, demolished my house, called me names, and threatened me to leave Maharashtra — today Maharashtra has left them,” she said.
The BJP MP further accused her critics of misogyny and political bullying.
“I am glad such women-haters, bullies, and nepotism mafia are being shown their right place by the janta janardan,” Ranaut added.
BMC Election Trends: BJP Emerges Dominant
According to the latest trends available for 210 of the 227 seats in the Mumbai civic body:
- BJP is leading in 90 wards
- Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena is ahead in 28 wards
- Ajit Pawar-led NCP, which contested independently, is leading in just three wards
In the Opposition camp:
- Shiv Sena (UBT) is leading in 57 wards
- Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) in nine wards
- Congress, contesting with the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), is ahead in 15 wards
- Other parties are leading in eight wards
These numbers confirm that the Shiv Sena (UBT)’s long-standing dominance over the BMC has come to an end.

What Changed in Maharashtra Politics
The results of the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation elections also sent a strong political signal. The once-decisive Pawar brand failed to consolidate votes, even with tactical coordination between the Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar factions of the NCP. Urban voters, it appears, were unconvinced by alliance arithmetic alone.
