New York [US]: Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris made her highly anticipated debut at the 2025 Met Gala, captivating audiences with a powerful and elegant presence at the fashion industry’s most celebrated night.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Harris wore a custom-designed black-and-cream gown by IB Kamara, the creative director of Off-White, masterfully aligning with this year’s theme—“Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
A marked departure from her usual crisp pantsuits, the ensemble featured a dramatic sleeve, sleek tailoring, and a flowing silk scarf, offering a bold yet graceful silhouette. The look was praised for its quiet sophistication and commanding presence.
Kamara shared insights into the inspiration behind the design, saying:
“The precise simplicity of this black and cream look for Kamala D. Harris complements her own strength and confidence—two qualities I consider to be the core of dandyism.”
The 2025 Met Gala celebrated the opening of the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, which explores the evolution and cultural resonance of Black fashion and dandyism. Titled “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” the exhibit draws from Monica L. Miller’s influential 2009 book Slaves to Fashion and spans the journey of Black style from the 18th century to modern-day artistry.
This year’s gala boasted a prestigious lineup of co-chairs, including Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour. Basketball icon LeBron James was slated to serve as an honorary chair but withdrew due to a knee injury.
Harris’s presence at the Met Gala was hailed as both a fashion statement and a celebration of identity, legacy, and empowerment—embodying the evening’s cultural and aesthetic ethos with poise and strength.
