Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] : Veteran actor Kamal Haasan has announced the postponement of the audio launch event for his upcoming film ‘Thug Life’, citing the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan as the reason for the deferment.
In a heartfelt statement shared via Raaj Kamal Films International on Instagram, Haasan expressed solidarity with the Indian Armed Forces, stating that celebration must give way to reflection during this time of heightened alert at the nation’s borders.
“Art can wait. India comes first. In view of the developments at our nation’s border and the current state of heightened alert, we have decided to reschedule the audio launch of Thug Life, originally planned for the 16th of May,” the statement read.
The much-anticipated film, directed by Mani Ratnam, marks a historic reunion between the two legends after nearly four decades since their iconic collaboration in Nayakan (1987). ‘Thug Life’ features Trisha Krishnan, Silambarasan TR (STR), and Sanya Malhotra, and is slated for theatrical release on June 5, 2025.
Haasan further emphasized the importance of national unity and respect for the Armed Forces, writing:
“As our soldiers stand firm on the frontlines with unflinching courage in defence of our motherland, I believe it is a time for quiet solidarity, not celebration… Celebration must make way for reflection.”
His decision has been widely praised for balancing artistic passion with civic responsibility during a time of military tension.
Meanwhile, the Indian Army confirmed that it repelled multiple Pakistani drone incursions and ceasefire violations along the Western Border and the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir on the night of May 8–9. The Army stated:
“Pakistan Armed Forces launched multiple attacks using drones and munitions… The drone attacks were effectively repulsed, and a befitting reply was given to the ceasefire violations.”
According to defence officials, India’s indigenously developed Akash surface-to-air missile system played a critical role in intercepting the drone threats. The system is now deployed jointly by the Indian Army and Air Force across sensitive border zones.
