Controversial actor and self-proclaimed film critic Kamaal Rashid Khan (KRK) was formally arrested by the Mumbai Police on the morning of Saturday, January 24, 2026. The arrest follows a late-night detention on Friday in connection with a firing incident that occurred earlier this month in the Oshiwara area of Andheri.
The police have seized KRK’s licensed firearm and registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.
The Incident: Bullets in Nalanda Society
The investigation began after two bullets were recovered from Nalanda Society on January 18. The shots struck the residential building, causing panic among residents, including a writer-director and a model.
- Bullet 1: Found on the second floor (residence of writer-director Neeraj Kumar Mishra).
- Bullet 2: Found on the fourth floor (residence of model Prateek Baid).
- Forensic Breakthrough: While CCTV footage initially yielded no leads, forensic teams traced the trajectory of the bullets back to KRK’s nearby bungalow.
KRK’s Defense: “Blame the Wind”
During interrogation at the Oshiwara police station, KRK admitted to firing the rounds but maintained it was an accident. His statement to the police included the following claims:
- Maintenance: He was cleaning his licensed gun and fired two to four shots to test if it was functioning correctly.
- Intention: He claimed he aimed toward a nearby mangrove area, assuming it was a safe, unoccupied space where the bullets would be absorbed.
- Trajectory: He alleged that strong winds deflected the bullets, causing them to travel further than intended and strike the residential complex.
“The police have arrested Kamal Khan in connection with the Oshiwara firing case. How and why he was involved is part of the investigation. We are questioning him.” — Dixit Gedam, DCP, Zone 9
