Celebrated Sufi singer Kailash Kher abruptly ended his live concert at the Mela Maidan in Gwalior on Thursday, December 25, 2025, after the situation spiraled out of control.
The event, organized as part of the Gwalior Gaurav Diwas and Tabla Diwas celebrations to mark the birth anniversary of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, turned chaotic when hundreds of fans jumped security barricades to reach the stage.
The Chaos: Barricades Breached
The concert, which began with high energy around 7:00 PM, saw a massive turnout that reportedly exceeded the venue’s capacity.
- The Breach: As Kher began performing his hits like “Jana Jogi De Naal Ve” and “Bam Bam Lahiri”, a section of the crowd grew restless3 Fans began jumping over the metal barricades and rushing toward the technical equipment and the main stage.
- The Warning: Visibly frustrated, Kher stopped the music and addressed the mob directly. “Humne aapki prashansa ki aur aap itna janwargiri kar rahe hain. Janwargiri mat kariye please,” (I praised you and you are behaving like animals. Please don’t display such animal-like behavior), he said over the microphone.
- Equipment Risk: Kher warned that if anyone touched the expensive sound equipment or musical instruments, he would shut down the show immediately.
Security Failure: From Amit Shah to Chaos
Earlier in the day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had addressed a gathering at the same venue under heavy security. However, for the musical evening, the security arrangements proved inadequate for the surging crowd.
- Police Intervention: Kher requested senior police officials to intervene, but even after sustained efforts, the crowd could not be contained behind the perimeter.
- The Exit: When the chaos persisted and fans began climbing the stage, Kher decided to leave the venue midway through his set, apologizing to the disciplined section of the audience with a simple, “Aapko main pranaam karta hoon.”
A Year of Public Frustration
This is not the first time Kher has expressed his disappointment with public decorum or the current state of the industry in 2025:
- Karnataka Attack: Earlier this year, Kher was attacked with water bottles during a show in Hampi by fans demanding he sing only in Kannada.
- Reality Show Critique: During the Jaipur Literature Festival in early 2025, Kher slammed television music reality shows, calling them “commercial spectacles” that have “nothing to do with real music.”
Upcoming Performances
Despite the Gwalior disruption, Kher’s team has confirmed his upcoming tour dates remain unchanged.
