In a major political shakeup, K Kavitha resigned from her father K Chandrasekhar Rao’s Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party on Wednesday. The move comes just one day after her suspension, unleashing what many see as a high-intensity political quake in Telangana. In an exclusive interview with NDTV, she made a stunning claim, asserting that her family, not just she, is being targeted.
“This is not a family feud,” Kavitha told NDTV. Instead, she described it as an effort by “people with vested interests” to “disintegrate a family.” She expressed deep concern that her father, the former Chief Minister, and her brother, KT Rama Rao, could be the next to be “eliminated” politically.
Kavitha, who has a history of being a vocal figure within the party, believes she was the first to be targeted because of her outspoken nature. “They have eliminated me. And I fear they’ll do the same thing to my brother and my father,” she said.
The former MLC has publicly alleged that her father is under the influence of two cousins: Harish Rao, a former BRS irrigation minister, and Santosh Kumar, a former Rajya Sabha MP. She claims the two have used her father’s name to amass wealth. Her allegations, however, have undercut the BRS’s defense that the PC Ghose Committee’s investigation into alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project is politically motivated.
Kavitha further alleged that her cousins are working on behalf of the ruling Congress party and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for political and financial gain. As proof, she pointed to the fact that despite facing serious allegations of corruption, her two cousins “are roaming free.” This, she said, is in stark contrast to her brother, KT Rama Rao, who she claims is repeatedly called in for questioning whenever his name surfaces in connection with a case.
“I am 100 per cent sure that Mr Revanth Reddy is backing Harish Rao and Santosh Rao. And because of that strength, they managed to somehow put pressure on my father to suspend me is what I believe,” she added.
The former Chief Minister, KCR, has yet to comment on his daughter’s resignation or her explosive claims.
