BRS leader and MLC K Kavitha on Friday alleged that the Telangana government has failed to maintain transparency regarding its claim of utilizing ₹1.53 lakh crore to repay debts from the previous administration. She accused the ruling party of withholding crucial details when questioned in the Assembly.
“The government of Telangana told the House today that they have utilized ₹1.53 lakh crore of the loan taken this year to repay the debt of the previous government. When we asked for details and pressed for clarification, the Finance Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister of our state did not clarify any of our doubts,” Kavitha told media.
She further claimed that the ministers evaded direct answers and that their statements were inconsistent with the budget documents provided. Expressing dissatisfaction, she revealed that the opposition was considering moving a privilege motion in the Assembly during the final two days of the budget session.
“We asked specific questions, but he evaded the answers. What he said was not in the budget papers. So, we are discussing this within the party, and we might move a privilege motion in the last two days of the budget session. We will continue to fight the government and bring out the truth so the people of Telangana can understand the reality,” she added.
The BRS, led by Kavitha, staged a protest at the Telangana Legislative Council on Friday against the ₹1.5 lakh crore loan taken by the Revanth Reddy-led Telangana government over the past 15 months.
Speaking to ANI, Kavitha accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of misleading the public regarding the state’s loan acquisitions. She demanded that the government release a white paper detailing the loans taken over the last 15 months.
She also alleged that Reddy made “false” claims when he recently stated that loans amounting to ₹1.58 lakh crore were acquired to repay debts incurred under the previous administration led by K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR).
